Watch the new video of Darja Švajger for “Sunny Day”
PRESS RELEASE – Darja Švajger, the former Slovenian Eurovision representative, who still holds the Alpine-Mediterranean country’s best result in the competition so far, released her first music video after the 1999’s For a Thousand Years – the song she performed on the Eurovision stage in Jerusalem that year.
The music video Sončen dan (A Sunny Day) is another highpoint in what has been a very successful year for one of the most renowned singers in Slovenia. Sunny Day was the winner of the 2014 Slovenian Song Festival, the most prestigious song festival in the country beside EMA, the Slovenian national Eurovision selection. The video was shot above the picturesque bluffs of the karst region in Slovenian Littoral and in an abandoned quarry near the capital of Ljubljana.
While mainly focusing on a blend of traditional Slovenian “schlager” (slovenska popevka) and contemporary styles, Slovenian Song Festival features live performances of contestants accompanied by the RTV Slovenia Symphonic orchestra. Having received the most votes on the televote, Darja Švajger won this year’s 39th edition of the Festival.
Švajger is not the only connection Sunny Day has with Eurovision. Both of the authors, Žiga Pirnat and Andraž Gliha, have had songs take part in national Eurovision selections in Slovenia, Romania and Ukraine, with their song Shine finishing 2nd in the (first of the two) Ukrainian selections in 2010. Pirnat also co-wrote and produced Time to Rise which was one of the six finalists in the Irish Eurosong in 2008.
