Watch Ani Lorak’s new video clip and song
KIEV, UKRAINE – In the midst of Ukrainian political turmoil a former Eurovision entrant is making the headlines in her home country.
2008 entrant Ani Lorak has released her new song “Majlvi” (Mallows), an emotional ballad in clear contrast with her previous dance tracks. The topic of the lyrics is mothers’ feeling after the loss of a son on battlefields. The singer was blamed for using shootings of Maidan events in her music video, as if she was using the tragedy for her own profit. Several politicians as well as fans were shocked.
The singer, who can easily deal with this tragic topic since she has lost a brother in Afghanistan, had to explain herself, and quoted Mother Theresa to do so, saying: “If you are kind, people will accuse you of hiding greed under the guise of your kindness. Still remain good: it is only your relationship with God that matters.”.
DID YOU KNOW?
Karolina Myroslavivna Kouiek, aka Ani Lorak has been a very popular singer since she was 14. She was the 2008 Ukrainian entrant in Belgrade, where she finished second behind Dima Bilan (even though “Shady Lady” was considered as the best entry that year). In 2009 she hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev.
Let’s hope Ani has managed to put an end to the scandal that seems so pointless in such a messed up country.
