OLIVIER: HOW TO RUIN A SONG: LESSON 1
Paula and Ovi are back, with almost the same recipe: up-tempo song with piano parts, an operatic attempt from Paula at the end of the entry and lots of gimmicks. It worked in Oslo, and it could do very well in Copenhagen also actually. We have here a quite sophisticated performance with great light effect and a clever use of the LED screen. Of course the big “plus” of the Romanian act is the use of a hologram picture of Paula at the beginning. This song could be a potential winner, BUT, I must admit, the weird choreography, that round fake piano, all those pyros just ruin the song that has big potential. Too much is too much. As in every contest, Romania finds it difficult to make a difference between sophisticated and over-sophisticated. Thank God, animals are not allowed on stage otherwise we would have a whole menagerie here!
FOTIS: MAKE A MIRACLE WITH THE LIGHTS PLEASE
Some of you might like the song and some might notbe excited. Yes, it reminds their 2010 entry. Their vocal performance of course is superb no one ever doubted for their marvellous voice. Paula’s high notes so far are delivere excellent. There is a problem though with the stage presentation (choreography) and with the lights: their faces look as if they are almost aliens. I have to wait the jury rehearsal to draw a conclusion about it.
