MINSK, BELARUS – They’re at it again! Eurovision Baku’s Belarusian representative, Litesound, have won some months ago a national competition for creating the official anthem, called “Brothers”, of the World Hockey Championship that is currently in Minsk. In 2012, Litesound astounded audiences with their pop rock hit, “We are the Heroes” which gained them world recognition despite not taking home the Eurovision title.

Since then, Litesound has avidly been working on new music and music media from Minsk. One of their recent singles, released around Christmas 2013, “Shooting Star” had fans everywhere rejoicing. Brothers Dmitry and Vladimir Kariakin had once again made magic with new single and video.

Their most recent victory however, has them once again representing Belarus on the world stage. While the world’s hockey fans unite over the long-anticipated championship, Litesound will deliver them a symbolic anthem that exemplifies unity and teamwork. With powerful lyrics centered on overcoming adversity together, a light motif around hockey can be recognized—giving way to images of locker room pep talks, and pleasurable pain of hours of practice. Even the chorus, catchy and perfect for a packed stadium or arena encourages fans of hockey, fans of Litesound, and everyone else in between to clap their hands, stomp their feet, and sing along.

“The most important idea behind this song is that we are a team. The real winner of any championship is the team that embraces brotherhood” Dmitry Kariakin explains, “The song is the perfect anthem because it is dedicated to team unity. The team that is united is always victorious.” For Litesound to win this contest, originally posed by Tut.by, an online Belarusian news network, was a true achievement.

Against all odds, Litesound has always emerged on top, proving that, yes, they are the heroes! From stage of Eurovision to the hockey arenas, they continue to represent a side of Belarus the world rarely sees, and doing so with style and finesse. “Brothers” will be performed during the World Hockey Championship in May and throughout the month-long games. You can listen to Litesound’s “Brothers” here! The final will take place tonight.
