VIDEO / GO SOFT ON THEM, THEY’RE ENGINES
OLIVIER: THE COLD(ER)PLAY
A British pop entry for Finland this year, and it’s actually quite good, even if we cannot consider it a favourite. Softengine are doing the job in a really great way. That comes as a treat for our ears after Lithuania. Topi has a great voice and the whole band is giving a flawless performance of their song “Something Better”. The rocky stage presentation with many flashlights is rather appealing. This could do well in this semi-final and actually get in the middle of the scoreboard on Saturday night. Finland deserves an honourable ranking this year.
FOTIS: AT LEAST IT’S ORIGINAL
Pure British pop rock tune and at least the only different song this year in Eurovision Song Contest. I love the contrast with the flashed out lights and the static band performance for which I agree with Olivier is Coldplay-alike. Interesting tune and of course a tune that could easily become a radio hit. My only worry is that it’s not exactly a Eurovision audience targeted song but you never know, we have seen lots of things happening in this fantastic event throughout history.
