ESCKAZ.COM REPORTS / Ukraine – The Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine, a member of the European Broadcasting Union, will decide who will represent Ukraine at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest within 48 hours.
This was revealed in the comment to Hromadske by UA:PBC board member, head of entertainment broadcasts department of the channel Oleksandra Koltsova. According to her, the decision on who will represent Ukraine, UA:PBC will take within 48 hours. And MARUV herself should give answers to questions on the contract within 24 hours.
“Now we have to approve or agree on the winner, who will be representing Ukraine. And we, as a Public Broadcasting service, are listening to the public opinion. There are different opinions in the society now, whether a performer having a concert activity in Russia should be able to represent Ukraine. There is a clause in our agreement , which we need to discuss with MARUV”, – said Koltsova.
To the question of whether Freedom Jazz, who took second place in the selection, will represent Ukraine, Koltsova replied: “Unfortunately, I can’t say yet. We would like to hear answers from MARUV, and for sure we would like to put a discourse in Ukrainian society: May an artist who represents Ukraine at the Eurovision go to Russia with concerts?”
To the question whether precisely the requirement from MARUV is to announce the cancellation of her concerts in Russia, Koltsova replied: “We have a clause in the contract that requires certain decisions – they must take them.”
Recall that the singer has four performances scheduled in Russia at the time before the Eurovision: February 28 / MK Zvukovaya Dorozhka Awards, April 5 / Zhara Music Awards, April 6 – Solo Concert at Izvestia Hall in Moscow, and April 12 solo concert at Aurora Concert Hall in St. Petersburg.
MARUV herself, while talking to journalists after the show, said that she would hold a press conference next week, at which she would answer all the questions regarding her performances in Russia.
