UKRAINE – Things turn nasty in Ukraine as well as across of Europe as Eurofans are furious with the UA:PBC’s decision to re-consider the Vidbir result. Let’s see what’s happening up to now as the final decision in Ukraine will be reached in the following days.
Although the national broadcaster allowed participants to take part despite their plans to have a Russian tour in the future or prior to the event, when Maruv won last night, things changed. Ukrainian national broadcaster claims that there is a contract to be signed with the winner in which there is a term not to appear in Russian territory until the Eurovision Song Contest, due to the. war between thee two countries. A political term which is understandable (emotionally) but not justified (for the majority of people with basic logic).
Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister criticised the winner. The Vice-Prime-Minister of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kyrylenko criticized the victory of the national selection of the participant of the Eurovision-2019. “I can repeat the thought of many people, but a singer who goes on tour in the aggressor state, plans to continue this and doesn’t understand the reasons cannot represent our country in the Eurovision-2019”, – Kyryleko wrote on Twitter.
Ukrainian national broadcaster through PR Director, Viktoriia Syderenko, confirms that the contract that winning artist needs to sign with the Public Broadcaster contains no tours in Russian Federation clause. “The singer now has a day to familiarize herself with all the terms and conditions of the contract and make her decision. We are waiting. Public Broadcaster also has the right to decide on a contract. The ultimate decision on who will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision belongs to the Public Broadcaster. We will inform officially when such a decision is made”, wrote Sydorenko.
Jamala who voted Maruv in the third place claim her voting had to do only with the criteria of who can bring the trophy to Ukraine and she surely didn’t convince any of us. Andrey Danilko (aka Verka Serduchka) who voted Maruv as first, said that there is no point of having a jury voting or a national selection public voting if the result can bbee cancelled like this.
Last but not least Maruv stated: “I would like to remind once again that the Eurovision Song Contest was created after the Second World War so that the countries unite, would be a common celebration for all, would share culture and I think it is very nice. First of all, it is a song competition, not a political election”
In the meantime EBU has not yet responded to the media giving their reaction. Not that they will do it first on oikotimes as they surely do it to their favourite fan site but it is time for them to give a big lesson to Ukraine for one more stupid action in the Eurovision Song Contest, was we all remember how close it was in 2017 to have the contest removed from Kyiv due to scandals, corruption and … stupidity. Though, we have to be fair as EBU cannot deal with any national selection (internal or public) until HoDs meeting in mid March when the official participations are submitted.
But let’s remember one thing: we must do anything legally possible to prevent politics from Eurovision at any cost!
