Turkish tweet opens the window of return
ISTANBUL, TURKEY – Finally some sense to the Turkish executives of national broadcaster? TRT’s General Manager, Mr Senol Goka responded in a Tweet tonight about Eurovision Song Contest saying that “if everything will be OK, we can come back next year”.
Interesting what “everything will be OK” means as TRT officially stated that they have objections to the jury and BIG 5. It is interesting also how we all going to welcome Turkey, a country that shuts down social media every now and then and arrests journalists.
Turkey withdraw in 2013 and 2014 Eurovision editions, originally wanted to withdraw in 2012 but didn’t want to disappoint their brother nation Azerbaijan who hosted the event. They seem to have dragged into that countries like Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Lots of things need to change in the TRT mentality, we are not the ones to teach lessons to TRT of course, but at least they should respect their Eurofans’ request for an open national selection instead of direct internal decision, although practically this strategy brought quite good rankings for the country in the contest!
