AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – The secret is out! Slow Down is the song with which Douwe Bob is going to represent our country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. The singer has just announced the song and introduced the accompanying video clip during a press conference in Amsterdam.
Slow Down is a compact, catchy country rock song with Seventies influences. The song is a call to slow down the pace of life and a response to today’s performance-oriented society. We are all going way too fast. There is constant pressure to prove yourself. Slow Down is a protest song against myself, against the pace at which I live life in Amsterdam. When walking through the forests of Sweden, or riding a horse through the fields in Spain, a peace descends on you and you see everything in a better perspective. It is such a great feeling! That is why Slow Down is also a state of mind. It is the liberation from the pressure of constantly having to do something. You should not let things get to you. Relax, do everything just that little bit slower and you will feel better and see everything more clearly, Douwe Bob explains.
Together with the members of his band, Matthijs van Duijvenbode, Jeroen Overman and JP Hoekstra, Douwe Bob wrote Slow Down in three stages at various locations in Europe. The basic structure of the song came about in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. The musical interpretation was developed in more detail in the Spanish town of Jimena de la Frontera, after which the definitive version was recorded in Sweden in the middle of the endless forests of the province of Värmland. The video clip was directed by Hans Pannecoucke.
On Tuesday 10 May, Douwe Bob will take to the stage in Stockholm during the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The final is on Saturday 14 May.
