SWEDEN – It is reported by Aftonbladet, the sources of which inside SVT are very strong, that Samir and Viktor are ready to come back inn Melodifestivalen 2018. You all remember the underwear performance of the two hunks in 2016. They first appeared in Melodifestivalen in 2015 with the song “Groupie”. Besides Melodifestivalen, Samir and Viktor have enjoyed success with various songs such as: Success”, “Saxof*ckingfon”, “Fick Feeling”, “Kung” and “Vi gör det ändå”.
GERMANY – NDR / ARD opened a platform and call for people to join the European jury which in the end will have 100 members. Jury members cannot participate in the national selection. The platform requires 15 minute survey for each applicant so the broadcasters get to know them better. The broadcasters also give a prize for those entering the project.
GREECE – The 15th act which submitted their bid to ERT has been revealed. It’s the five membered band DECHO. DECHO are Panos Deloukos, Yorgos Efentopoulos, Yannis Vagionas, Yorgos Vasileiadis and Yannis Tserelis. The band comes from Thessaloniki and formed in 2011 releasing their first single this summer. They seem to be popular in Thessaloniki. Their music genre is pop rock with Greek and English lyric songs. In the meantime another X factor 2016 participant, Tania Breazou has been revealed to be the 16 bidder for the Greek national selection.
AUSTRALIA – Despite seeking a format for national final with the contribution of SVT’s Christer Björkman, Australian national broadcaster announced that they are going to Lisbon with an artist which will be internally selected. Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia, Kylie Minogue, Jessica Mauboy, Sia, Danii Minogue, Courtney Act, The Veronicas are of course the artists in the Eurofan’s wishful list.
LIECHTENSTEIN – 1FLTV issued a press release in which they are confirming discussions with the European Broadcasting Union regarding their Eurovision debut in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. The small German state seeks a way to celebrate its 300th anniversary of independence as in 1719 Vaduz and Schellenberg regions declared independent by the Roman Empire. EBU membership will be funded by sponsors, foundations and government and it expected around 300,000 Euros. Negotiations begin this week. 1FLTV would like to have a national selection for their participation under the title Liechtenstein Music Contest. Local press though doubt on how easy the state broadcaster will be accepted within the EBU.
CYPRUS – Berklee Music College honoured the 1987 Cypriot Eurovision participant Alexia giving her name in one of the auditoriums. Berklee Music College is the top music university in the United States and the given name is something that happens rarely. Alexia not only represented Cyprus in 1987 Eurovision edition but she was backing vocalist in Cyprus’ debut in 1981.
GEORGIA – 2015 Eurovision Song Contest participant, Nina Sublatti announced as jury member in the Georgian Idol. Nina says: “My debut came on this show and I’m grateful to the Georgian people — it ended as it ended and I won this competition,” she said. “Today I’ve a double responsibility and I’m especially motivated to put my most into this. I want this season to be the best.” Nina proudly represented Georgia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest ranking 11th in the Grand Final.
FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA – Up to now we knew that EBU had eliminated MRT from their services including participation in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest as the national broadcaster owes 500,000 Euros to the EBU. Then we learned that EBU and EU are offering a special financial aid to almost all Balkan national broadcaster suffering and struggling with debts from which MRT could benefit. MRT now says that sanctions by the EBU against them have been lifted: “A meeting was held [between MRT and the EBU] at the highest level, where it was decided to abolish all sanctions against MRT and all the services provided by the EBU are available on the Macedonian Radio Television again.” But there is no statement what will happen with the senior Eurovision Song Contest participation although they are allowed and will participate as scheduled in the JESC edition later this month.
