TEN EUROSONGS FOR COPENHAGEN
During Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, the pedestrian street Strøget is turned into a Fan Mile, which runs through the inner city, connecting the central squares, like Gammeltorv and Nytorv, where the temporary Eurovision Village is located. From 28 April – 10 May 2014 citizens and visitors will be able to walk the Tribute Walk up and down the Fan Mile between Kongens Nytorv square and City Hall Square. The host city in collaboration with Copenhagen City Center (KCC) is paying tribute to 10 Eurovision classics on eight-metre wide banners in the air.
Johnny Logan takes first
In the beginning of March, Copenhagen asked the Danish and international Eurovision community to help find the 10 biggest and most deserving Eurovision songs of all time. For the rest of the month, they were tweeting using the hashtag #esctribute, posting and commenting, and here they are:
01. Hold me now (Johnny Logan, Ireland)
02. Fly on the Wings (Olsen Brothers, Denmark)
03. Waterloo (ABBA, Sweden)
04. Fairytale (Alexander Rybak, Norway)
05. Save your kisses for me (Brotherhood of Man, UK)
06. Halleluja (Milk & Honey, Israel)
07. My number one (Helena Paparizou, Greece)
08. Ein bißchen Frieden (Nicole, Germany)
09. Ne partez pas sans moi (Celine Dion, Schwitzerland)
10. Hard rock Halleluja (Lordi, Finland)
”Fans from all over the world have joined us and voted for their favourite songs. We ended up with a large number of songs. The most surprising to us was that Greece’s winner song from 2005, My Number One, made the list. We would never have guessed without the fans. Now all that is left is to take a walk down memory lane on the Fan Mile and celebrate the great melodies,” says Head of City Events Ulrich Ammundsen. During Eurovision week 4-10 May, one can expect many pop up events on the Fan Mile, most likely inspired by the 10 songs.
This is how we have done it:
We have collected all the votes from Facebook, Twitter. To make sure it was fair and diverse, we decided that each country could only have one song on the Tribute Walk. In case a country had more than one song in top 10, we have chosen the song with most votes. Thus we have picked Waterloo over Euphoria and Diggi-loo Diggi-ley, Fairytale over La det Swinge, Hold me Now over Lipstick etc.
