SWEDEN – Swedish national broadcaster kicks off today the process of Melodifestivalen 2017. SVT laughed the rules for the event. No changes in the format of the show. 28 songs will take place, 14 of them will be chosen from the submitted entries and 13 from invited authors and the 28th entry will be from the winner of Svensktoppen Nästa. Submissions can take place online from September 1st to September 16th.
In hist statements Christer Björkman said that he is happy with the broadcast of Eurovision 2016 and the successful raking of Frans and now they are looking for the new Swedish entry in Eurovision. The Swedish broadcaster seeks for variety and diversity in the songs while they are once again supporting the efforts of the new artists.
Among the rules we can see that 30% of the songs in Melodifestivalen should be in Swedish, while submitted entries in either Swedish or English will be determined alongside with the guidelines of the SVT expert panel which will choose the final entries. 50% of the 14 selected entries should be composed by female authors and 50% by male authors. Citizenship of the authors should be either Swedish or at least one of them in case a foreigner author submit a song.
SVT also explains that the song should be minimum 2.00 and maximum 3.00 minutes and on MF stage they can be 8 people, narrowed to 6 in case they win and go to the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2016 Melodifestivalen 2,450 songs submitted (1,982 from regular contest and 468 from public contest).
