Spain 2017: interview with Mario Jefferson
Can you introduce yourself for our readers?
Hi! My name is Mario Jefferson, i come from Málaga and i live in Madrid. I love music since i was a baby and i haven’t stopped singing since.
What is the message behind your song?
It talks about that first contact with someone you like, that attitude that makes your attention stop on that person. It could be a first whatsapp conversation or a first look in a disco.
What does music mean to you?
I need music like i need air. Its just as simple as that.
Why should a Eurofan vote for you to represent Spain at Eurovision?
Because i want to send to Europe something different. I have a peculiar voice that would make you remember Spain’s song, for good or bad but you would remember Spain at the end of the show.
In recent history Spain have not been very successful at Eurovision. Why do you think this is?
I have no idea! I really enjoyed the last acts we have sent. Sometimes i think its because of the language, but then again last year we sent an English song and ended at the bottom.. so i just don’t know. I wish i knew the answer so I could put it in to my performance! haha
Do you consider yourself a Eurovision fan and what is your first memory?
I don’t consider myself a ‘European’ because i don’t search for information of other countries or write a countdown on my calendar to Eurovision, but i do watch it every single year and with a lot of excitement. Its a celebration of music. Its great voices, performances, visual effects.. its just amazing.
This year TVE have decided to do things differently, what are your feelings regarding the changes?
I’m very happy. I think each one of us are different voices, music.. you can choose a favorite. We are all a different kind between us and that is cool. I just can’t wait for the live show!
The world is currently facing challenges of division. What message would you send to reassure people?
As Michael Jackson said, ‘If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.’ We should all get up and take every day as a new opportunity to be better. A better friend, a better son, a better person. We need less hate and more helping each other.
Do you have a favourite Eurovision song and what is it?
If you mean in the previous years then I like Fairytale, Euphoria, La la love, Heroes..
Can you tell us about what your stage performance would be should you be selected for Kiev?
I can’t say much! What I can tell you is that I’ll be dancing (I don’t know if this is good, haha) And there will be dancers with me and choreography. The song asks for it. I want to make Europe move their body and have a good time (smile)
