MADRID, SPAIN – Since Spain chose its representative for Stockholm 2016, there continues to be stories regarding the selection process.
In a recent Spanish publication “Lecturas”, María Isabel claimed that she was told that the song could not be 100% in English, that there had to be some Spanish language within it and that people were unable to vote for her even when they wanted to.
It’s nothing new as similar problems were highlighted with the selection process of 2008 although this time there was the presence of an International Jury. Regarding this, María Isabel was adamant “they chose a Spanish song and wanted us to sing in Spanish”.
Xuso Jones, who also took part in the final added further to the debate “If someone has money to buy votes they have the right to do so but TVE has to control it”.
When questioned further regarding this, he stated on Twitter that he never suggested that the winning song bought votes but it should also be noted that the song performed by Xuso Jones, “Victorious” has previously been accused of plagiarism.
