SPAIN 2014: RAUL FUENTES INTERVIEW
VITORIA, SPAIN – As Spain run a preselection contest to choose who will be their representative at Eurovision 2014, Jaime Solloso of oikotimes.com has an exclusive interview with Raul Fuentes who is looking to represent Spain with his song “Seguir sin ti” (Continue without you). He previously took part in the National Final of 2000 and was also able to spare some time for us in 2008 on one of his tour dates in Spain.
Hello Raul. How are you feeling about the preselection?
Emotional and very nervous. After 14 years since the preselection of 2000 I feel honoured to be back on an adventure like this one.
Why have you decided to return to Eurovision?
Because I heard “Seguir sin ti” and I decided that it was a good song for Eurovision.
Do you consider Eurovision the pinacle of music?
Eurovision is a great oportunity for any artista. Not only at national level but also internationally.
What are your thoughts on RTVE hosting a preselection contest and not going for an internal candidate like in previous years?
It’s important that we all get to choose a representative. The important thing is the quality of the choices on offer, both artistically and musically.
Your favourite genre of music for a song contest?
There is no prefered style, it’s the songs. A good song could be nice for the public but it may not match the requirements to win a contest.
How is your song for this year?
It’s a classical ballad. A complete challenge for me after having been successful with dance music. As an artista I have many insecurities and I would like to win the public by singing ballads.
How has Raul changed in these last 14 years?
It’s 14 years of a career and one goes forward through sheer curiosity. At a personal level you realice that you made a lot of sacrifices but in the balance of life it all compensates.
Anything further to tell our readers?
I would like to thank all those people who in these 14 years have been there, on the front row supporting me and I hope to surprise them in a good way with each new project I undertake.
