This year’s contest started at 20.30 CET, with a summary of all the Icelandic entries at Eurovision interspersed with interventions from 2 male hosts. So on, the most awaited moment for us today, started at 21:05 CET. With some improvements on the staging, lighting and production, the Icelandic broadcaster (RÚV) hosted a nice show, but sometimes quite boring because of the commercial breaks and long talkings in Icelandic.

As an Interval Act, we had last year’s runner-up, Blar Opal and their guitars. Time for results came at 22:15, Birgitta was the first to be announced, then Svavar & Hreindis, and last but not least, Eyþor with his nice ballad.

Yohanna, the singer from Iceland in Moscow 2009, broke all the expectations and she is not lucky at having the chance to perform again her song on Saturday… yet. Tomorrow, the second semifinal will take place, with 6 new more acts, with 3 of them passing through.

Anyway, tomorrow night, after the semifinal, another semifinalist, who didn’t have the chance to reach the final, will receive a wildcard from the jury and will be able to perform again at the big Saturday show.

The first of the 2 semifinals of Söngvakeppnin 2013 has now come to an end, and we have a clear result! The 3 finalists are:

Birgitta Haukdal – Meðal andanna
Eyþór Ingi – Ég á líf
Svavar Knútur & Hreindís Ylva – Lífið snýst

Sjáumst, Europe!
