San Marino & Luxembourg join forces?
CITY OF SAN MARINO, SAN MARINO – Since OGAE Luxembourg gala, last Saturday, the Euro-sphere has been filled up with rumors of a comeback by the Great-Duchy (despite the negative reaction of Minister Nagel). The latest rumor, and probably the most surprising of them all, appeared on several websites yesterday: Luxembourg would team up with San Marino for Eurovision 2015!
A Luxemburgish local singer, Thierry Mersch, declared that he had proposed SMRTV with joining a Sammarinese artist on stage in Vienna for a duo. 2 countries represented by a single song? Well not exactly, since the entry would be Sammarinese (RTL would not join the contest and would not even broadcast the show). But at least there would be a Luxembourgish artist on Eurovision stage (something that hasn’t happened since 1993).
SMRTV has confirmed the idea in a press release on their website
“We learned from the ESC dedicated press about a possible collaboration between San Marino and Luxembourg for the ESC 2015. The San Marino RTV Director General confirms there’s been some talks between the two countries but the TV is evaluating other proposals. San Marino RTV will announce its participation after the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that will be held in Malta next November 15th”.
The Luxembourg-San Marino collaboration is just an option amongst others… stay tuned to see what SMRTV will come up with for Eurovision 2015…
Should Thierry Mersch join the Sammarinese team, we should stop fantasizing about a Luxembourg come back in 2015! After all, if we consider his participation as a national participation, I’m pleased to inform you that many unexpected countries have already taken part to Eurovision then, given the nationality of some entrants: Australia (United Kingdom 1974, 1996), Cape Verde (Portugal 1994), Tunisia (France 1991), the USA (Germany 2009)… Much fuss about nothing in my opinion…
