RUSSIA – The most anticipated act of the year comes from Russia with the highly expected, and now official come-back of Serguey Lazarev. Sergey, 35, started his carrer at the age of 10, going from awards to talent contests victories. He really rose to fame as part of duo Smash ! in 2000, with Vlad Topalov.
Year after year, the band became the most successful act in the Russian Federation. From 2006, Lazarev decided to pursue his own solo career, recording no less than 6 album and performing huge smash hits.
Since the early 2010’s, the singer has been, year after year, tipped as the Russian entrant to Eurovision. In 2008, he even lost the national final to Dima Bilan. One had to wait for 2016 to see most Eurofans’ dream come true:
Lazarev waving the Russian flag on ESC stage ! In Stockholm Serguey was THE favourite from day one with his incredible « You’re The Only One ». Despite an astounding performance, and a victory in the televoting, the singer only got a bronze medal on the big night.
Since then, it has been rumoured that Russia, who felt robbed that night, had been seeking for revenge. 2019 will be the occasion for Russia to shine bright again (especially after last year’s disaster). Can Sergey Lazarev follow Dima Bilan’s example and win the contest on his second attempt ? Time will tell…
More details on Sergey’s participation will be unveiled this Saturday at 15:30 CET in the tv show Hi, Andrey! on Russia 1.
