ROMANIA – Finally the Romanian government decided to change the law and allow funds to go to TVR to pay the debt to the European Broadcasting Union according to Profit.ro. The TVR debt to the EBU is 17 million Swiss Francs (15.3 million Euros). Due to the current law which didn’t allow TVR to use state funds for covering the debts and the country was ultimately expelled from the Eurovision Song Contest. TVR has no access at the moment to broadcast international sports events like the World Cup, Euro 2016 and Summer Olympic Games therefore an emergency change of legislation is a top priority. With the new law, TVR will be able to use state funds for debts, television rights, fees and licences for international programs and of course will become eligible to participate in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
