ROMANIA 2014: THE NATIONAL FINAL SAGA!
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – This year’s Romanian national selection “Selecţia Naţională” is highly expected by eurofans as it is already considered as a high level one. Unfortunately, a local scandal has appeared as a stain on the bright picture. Indeed TVR was accused of nepotism since Mihai Georgescu, leader of band “Bere Gratis”, that is one of the bidders, is no other than the husband of Liana Stanciu, the Romanian Head of Delegation.
On the exclusivnews.ro website, Liana revealed that on the very day her husband expressed interest in joining the national final line-up she had sent a resignation letter to TVR, but that her resignation was simply rejected by the national broadcaster.
Following the accusation, Liana expressed herself during a press conference last Saturday: “I would like to give up; I have tried to give up. I even submitted a letter of resignation, once Mihai decided to submit a song. I was told that there was no conflict [of interests]. Once I was named [head of delegation], I was happy for two days, but then… when Mihai told me that he wanted to compete, for his reasons, which I understand and support perfectly, I went and told [TVR] about my situation. And I was told, and I quote, “You will not be on the jury, you will not appoint the jury, you have nothing to do with the selection process. You will just represent [the winner] outside Romania.” And then I said OK.”
Today Mihai Georgescu has tried to make things clear. During an interview he gave, the singer said that should he win Selecţia Naţională, either him or her would have to withdraw.
Anyway, we all know that Paul and Ovi, and their song “Miracle” are the big favourite, and their victory would put an end to this Romanian drama.
