PRESS CONFERENCE: EBU / DR
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – Today Danish Broadcaster DR and the EBU did a joint press conference about this year’s contest and the future for Eurovision. Executive Producer Pernille Gaardbo and Head of Show Jan Lagermand Lundme opened the press conference telling that the reason why we are on Eurovision Island is that this is a different kind of setting and they were inspired by the water around Eurovision Island.
The names of the three shows next week will be:
Semi final 1: Join Us in Denmark
Semi final 2: Join the World
Grand Final: Join the competition
Head of Show Jan Lagermand Lundme showed the opening video of semi final 1 which is a big online choir from the campaign #MyEurovisionSong. It will be an amazing opening and this in really in the spirit of the #JoinUs theme. Afterwards he showed three of the postcards, from Austria, Belarus and United Kingdom. Conchita from Austria is making her flag with dresses, Teo from Belarus with ice hockey pucks and Molly from UK will use red busses, white carpet and people dressed in blue. Last he showed a new Eurovision Book of Records which shows some of the funny acts from Eurovision. This will be a part of the shows during the commercial breaks in some countries.
Jon Ola Sand and Sietse Bakker from EBU thanked DR for the professional work during the preparations for the competition and Jon Ola Sand said that he hopes that the countries that withdraw this year will come back in 2015. This year the competition will be broadcasted in New Zealand for the first time and Canada will also make a test to show the Eurovision there.
About the Ukraine-Russia crisis Jon Ola said that there have been no problems in Copenhagen with the delegations and they follow the crisis close. To the question of what to do if Ukraine or Russia wins the most important thing is that the host broadcaster can host the contest financially, that there will be security in the country so delegates, fans and press can feel safe.
Yesterday the EBU revealed the jury names to make openness and Sietse Bakker told that five countries were asked by the EBU to change the jury and they all did.
Next year for the diamond jubilee of the contest NDR in Hamburg are interested in making a anniversary show in Berlin and when we know the host city for next year’s contest there will be plans how to celebrate during the three shows.
