POLAND 2014: HEAD OF DELEGATION INTERVIEW
WARSAW, POLAND – Polish broadcaster TVP is ready to promote its 2014 entry for the Eurovision Song Contest and is ready to win, Mikolaj Dobrowolski told eurowizja.org. TVP decided to choose its entry for the 2014 edition internally due to the poor quality of songs which have been submitted for the country’s national final over the past few years. In addition, finances and poor ratings for the national final have forced TVP to make an internal selection. Poland last selected its entry internally twenty years ago, in 1994.
Despite pulling out of the contest in 2012 and 2013, TVP has selected a new approach and wants to do the best it can at Eurovision or even win the contest in order to change the poor image Eurovision has in Poland. Fans, but also members of OGAE Poland, asisted the Polish broadcaster to select Donatan & Cleo as the country’s representatives for Copenhagen. TVP has approached Polish folk ensemble Mazowsze to collaborate with Donatan & Cleo during the promotion of their song and plans are being made to release the entry “My Slowianie” on CD.
TVP says it does not know whether it will come back to the contest in the future and they are currently focusing squarely on this year’s edition.
