One more award for Federica (before the JESC trophy?)
PRESS RELEASE – Yesterday Federica attended the Gieh l-Imqabba (Imqabba Honour) celebrations, held as part of the annual events for the 21st edition of Jum l-Imqabba (Imqabba Day). The event was organised by the Local Council of the village of Imqabba and held at the Imqabba Primary school which forms part of St Benedict’s College. Federica’s school in the nearby village of Kirkop also forms part of this institution.
Executive Secretary Mr Anthony Bonello explained that “this is an evening in which recognition is given to distinct people who were of service to our locality. This year the Merit of Honour is going to be presented to Mr McLeish, an ex-BBC presenter, who teaches children how to read on a voluntary basis”.
Federica Falzon, whose relatives are from Imqabba, was awarded a prestigious honour for her successful international achievements in the TV competition Ti Lascio Una Canzone, held on Rai Uno earlier this year. After Ms Charlene Zammit, Imqabba Vice Mayor, presented Federica with the recognition, the local band directed by Mro. Calleja played a number of famous pieces from the Italian TV show.
Ms Zammit, said Federica “is to be praised for her talent and further encouraged to continue in pursuing such a career”. She also claimed that “the residents were all glued to their television set when Federica took part in Ti Lascio Una Canzone, and will surely be doing so again this time round for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest”. Newly appointed Parish Chaplain, Rev. John Curmi added that he too listened to the song Diamonds, the song with which Federica will be representing Malta in the Junior Eurovision on the 15th of November 2014. “Federica has a beautiful voice and such occasions bring the community together supporting such wonderful talent.”
Jum l-Imqabba celebrations continue today with mass and the placement of a wreath on the war memorial.
