Norwegian record labels furious with NRK
OSLO, NORWAY – It seems that the Norwegian record labels are furious with NRK and EBU because of a new ruling: EBU wants next year all songs to be part of the official album but also available as singles to download. Sony Music, Warner Music and daWorks are seriously thinking to boycott Melodi Grand Prix, the show through which Norway decides its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Leif O. Ribe from Sony Music said to local newspaper VG that the new rule surprised them in 2014 national selection as they were not aware of it and NRK told them that if they don’t accept it then Carl Espen will not represent Norway in Eurovision Song Contest.
Jon Ola Sand, Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest explained though that this was NRK’s fault for not informing the participants of the national final as EBU informed all members since last autumn. It was only Norway, Finland and Romania who reacted to the new rule.
Stian Malme, from NRK said that the broadcaster is negotiating with EBU for this new rule!
