NERIT responds upon Eurovision future
ATHENS, GREECE – Many media wrongly translated and assumed the conclusion that the Greek national broadcaster is banned from Eurovision Song Contest 2015.
The team of oikotimes.com asked Mr Bakker few days ago what’s going on with NERIT and Eurovision. His response was very clear: “To participate in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, a broadcaster has to be a Member of the EBU. NERIT’s participation in 2014 was granted based on the pending application for membership and the exceptional situation in Greece.”
Local media in Greece from the less visited till the big commercial broadcasters mentioned the news (almost all sourcing oikotimes.com) as EBU bans NERIT from Eurovision. NERIT was, fairly, forced to answer:
“Based on EBU rules, NERIT’s participation in Eurovision is pending as broadcasters interested to participate in the contest should be active members of the European Broadcasting Union. NERIT submitted it’s admission to become EBU’s active member, which will be decided in December by the General Assembly. EBU will re-examine the Eurovision participation of Greece and NERIT when and if the broadcaster is fully admitted in the EBU”.
