MF 2014: THIRD SEMIFINAL REVIEW
GÖTEBORG, SWEDEN – The third semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2014 will soon take place in Göteborg. Will this heat be of higher standard is this festival that some already call the weakest in years? SVT has just published snippets of the 8 entries that will take Scandinavium stage next Saturday.
Outrigger – Echo: Wow, a heavy metal track in Melodifestivalen! It is well staged and well performed but I’m afraid, only Finland can dare to send such an act to the Eurovision Song Contest.
EKO Red: That’s just weird and sound too 80’s. Red is the colour of the card this act may get…
Oscar Zia – Yes We Can: Oscar was a backing vocalist last year and now he is under the sportlight. Mister Melodifestivalen, Frederic Kempe, is behind this entry. No surprise there, a pop act that could have been performed years ago by Eric Saade or Ola Svensson. Interesting though, Kempe has entered 4 songs this yes, and so far they have all made it to the final (« Undo ») or to Andra Chansen (« Bröder »). Not sure this one will be the exception…
Shirley Clamp – Burning Alive: A Melodifestivalen veteran here, as this is Shirley’s 6th attempt to get the trophy. A powerful voice for a nice ballad but something is missing though…
State of Drama – All We Are: It’s the second consecutive participation for the band. A pop act that could definitely stand out in this semi-final. A bit similar to this year‘s Finnish entry.
Cajsa Stina Akerström – En Enkel Sang: This is the only entry in Swedish in this third semi-final. A nice folk ballad that definitely deserves its title… a simple song. This one could be the surprise of the night since a similar song, « Songbird », won the first semi-final.
Ace Wilder – Busy Doin’ Nothin’: This is clearly a different entry. A bit electro, a bit urban, but will it be enough to get through? I express my doubts…
Dr Alban & Jessika Folcker – Around The World: A track just in-between RnB and urban. Not sure the name “Dr Alban” will be enough to make this one qualify.
2 of these entries will go straight to the final (Stockholm 08.03), and 2 will take part to the Andra Chansen round (Lidköping 01.03). Once again, a rather disappointing semi-final. Fans are still expecting THE smash hit song that could stand out in this year’s Melodifestivalen. A quick reminder so far:
