MF 2014: SECOND SEMIFINAL REVIEW
LINKÖPING, SWEDEN – On Saturday, the second semi-final of Melodifestivalen will take place at the Cloetta Center in Linköping. SVT has just released previews of the 8 bidding entries.
WHAT THE BOOKIES SAY
For the second semifinal in Linköping our colleagues at OddChecker predict now Sanna Nielsen and Martin Stenmarck (Sweden 2005) to qualify in the final while JEM and The Refreshments to proceed to the second chance show. We will see soon how things turn out.
JEM «Love Trigger»: To make it short here is a boring and exhausting dance track. It sounds as if we had heard it a million times before.
The Refreshments «Hallelujah»: The country song of the night. Are we in Sweden or in South Dakota? It’s not bad but… how could the band make it to the final? By the way, the song is ok, but not refreshing at all.
Manda « Glow »: Take Timoteij’s strings, ask Aliona Moon and her sisters to join you on stage, and you have Manda’s schlager entry. This song is not bad at all and could do well in the land of Schlagervision.
Panetoz « Efter Solsken » (After sunshine): If you like cocktails go for this one. A tropical pop act performed in Swedish with rap elements! It’s like having smörgåsbord on a Caribbean beach, and it’s rather fun! The multi-ethnic boy band will definitely get votes from the ladies.
Pink Pistols « I Am Somebody »: Don’t worry guys, yes you’re somebody, and I can tell you who… Alcazar a few years ago! That is THE copycat of the year. The song is enjoyable, very Swedish, but a bit old fashioned. Moreover, who would go for this one when you can have the original (Alcazar will perform in the 4th semi-final).
Sanna Nielsen « Undo »: The hot favourite of the night, the queen of Schlager and of Melodifestivalen (7th participation!). Sophisticated staging with spotlights, a great voice and a good song. Nevertheless, « Undo » is less memorable that some of her former entries. I guess she’ll qualify easily but her song won’t make us forget « Empty Room ».
Little Great Things « Set Yourself Free »: A pure rock track. I guess it’s pleasant if you like this kind of music.
Martin STENMARCK « När Änglarna Går Hem » (When angels go home): The 2005 Swedish representative in Kiev is back, with a song in his native tongue. A nice dramatic anthem that surely deserves more than a one-minute long listening.
In a nutshell we could say that this semi-final is even weaker that last week’s one. Sanna and Martin should make it to the final. The fight will be for the 2 spots for the second chance round.
