MESC 2013: GIANLUCA BEZZINA WINS
Hello and we are back for the final of the Maltese Selection for Eurovision. The stage is obviously the same as well as the two presenters on stage and one backstage. The show is starting with a performance of DREAMS who is a band taken from a very popular tv-series on Maltese National television. Although they are pretty good actually PBS thought is was needed to drag this on and on. Please let the real show soon!
Finally the presenters are on stage to welcome everybody and presenting the jury, including head of delegation of Croatia and the lovely Olga from Belarussian Television who we all remember very well when Oikotimes team was present at Eurofest 2012. The president of the jury is also welcoming special guest Peter André who will be performing tomorrow at the Malta Music Awards.
And were are off for the performances of the night that is most important the finalists!
Scar is the one to kick of with their uptempo poprock song Superstar. I must say it’s not my style at all but i like a lot their energy. The leadsinger is doing a good job and it’s a radiofriendly song for sure! However i dont think this is the song we are looking for to represent Malta as it lacks something to stand out.
Next one is Dorothy Bezzina with her song Starting from the end. Her brother Gianluca will perform later on, something to watch out for! Dorothy’s song is not bad but somehow it’s something that we have heard already. And her performance is not the best what we have heard from this lovely singer by the way.$
Toilet break!? Ah no it’s Corazon with My stranger love, a ballad. Lovely singer i must say! but the song is so boring that you would go instantly to take that toilet break actually. I might sound though but this is an actual and strong feeling when hearing the song. Sorry Corazon dear, you deserve much better!
Next one is Jessica with Ultraviolet, the song from Thomas G:Son who wrote Euphoria the winning song from Loreen last year. Jessica is doing pretty ok although some notes are not so well. Again a moderate song which wont do it for Malta.
And we are off for the first commercial break….
The next one on stage is Gianni with Us against the world. This very sympathic singer was in the final last year too but with a much better song. unfortunately this years song is much weaker and he will not stand a chance unfortunately.
Davinia is the next singer to come on stage with Betrayed. The girl looks lovely on stage but again what a boring midtempo song this is. I’m so sure many other better songs were eliminated somehow. Sorry Davinia, next time better!
Now the topfavourite of the night: Kevin Borg with Needing you! This is without any doubt the most professional singer on stage tonight. Being maltese, having moved to sweden and winning Idols there the extremely nice singer has shown he knows how to perform. The public is cheering during the show and somehow i feel we are hearing the winning track of tonight. If this goes to Malmö, Malta is 99% sure of a place in the final!!! Welldone Kevin!
We are going crescendo now! Next one is Richard Edwards with Falling like Rome. Richard is a very good live performer and should have gone to ESC already in 2011 when he ended 2nd behind Glenn Vella. Falling like Rome is a very very good song and the performance is perfect. A modern popballad which could attract very much votes! I liked a lot Kevin Borg but should Richard Edwards win i would be as happy too! Very welldone Richard!
And off to the next commercial break!
The next performer is Janice Debattista with Perfect Day. The girl looks lovely but somehow she makes me think so much of Thea Garrett the 2010 Maltese entry for Eurovision. She has a lovely voice and actually i like the song, but i dont think the song is strong enough to stand out. But good performance overall i must say.
Next one is Deborah C with Love-O-Holic. Deborah was in the finals last year with You make me go uh uh along with Leila James from belgium in a belgian composition. Now the song is from swedish producers and i must say Deborah has made an impressive development. The song is definately one of the most commercial tracks tonight and surely a big dance hit! A very big congratulations to Deborah and her team! I’m mostly impressed!
Now the amazing Claudia Faniello with When It’s Time. Claudia was robbed the victory big time last year when she SHOULD have gone to Eurovision with the amazing song Pure. Will she be able to do it this year? Claudia knows i wish it big time but somehow i doubt this will happen as the song is really not that bad but the competition is too though i fear. However if there is anyone with an international star quality to represent malta soon it’s Claudia without any doubt!
The next one is Gianluca with the very happy song Tomorrow. Gianluca is actually a doctor but music is his other passion. When we met him in malta the guy was so sympathic and open so there is no way that anyone cannot like the guy. I could see this happy feeling song actually as a very dark horse for winning the ticket to Sweden! The people is loving it as they are applauding from the very first seconds! Watch this song out!
Another commercial break is coming up….
Next one on stage is Chris Grech with the popballad never walk away. Chris is new to the Malta Eurovision and definately a fresh name with a great voice! Somehow i think this song might be in the toplisting later on. Will it be enough to win? I doubt it, but in malta you never know. Welldone Chris!
Richard Edwards is back for the second time now with his girlfriend Petra with their duet Wonderful Today. How much i loved Richards solo-entry, how much i dislike this duet. There is nothing in it that can attract me and really PBS should have given to other singers such as Franklin Calleja to be in the final of Malta Eurovision. Vocally there is not much to comment but the song…..uffff off to the next one please!
Amber is the second last with In Control. The girl was who was a backing singer for Kurt Calleja last year in Baku and who is rumoured (with strong confirmations) to be linked very close to the head of malta eurovision is said to be a favourite to win the ticket. Well let me this clear, as much as i think the singer is maybe a very nice person and singer, i absolutely hate the song. Amber should fire her composer, this is so bad and she will definately not do it for Malta this year.
Last song of the night is Too little too late from Domenique Azzopardi, a song composed by Marc Paelinck from Belgium and Matthias Strasser from Austria. Last night Domenique had big problems as her inn-ears werent working at all during the performance and the technical team put up the wrong backing track. However tonights performance was way way better then last night so Domenique and her team can be very proud of the performance. A very good closing of the show! Let’s see now how it will go.
We are off for a first recap …..
After some interviews we are off for another recap, televoting is closing shortly!
And after some interviews we are off for another commercial break. Maltese television definately knows how to keep on things going!
We are back for the first interval act which is georg and paulu with the song ‘Hot and famous’, an act which was likely created as a gimmick towards the festival. Totally over the top but the maltese are loving it :)
The next act is the 2013 Swiss entry Heilsarmee with their song. i wonder how long it will take to change the name of the song or what will happen.
The voting is going one, results soon!!
After a very exciting voting we have a winner! Gianluca Bezzina wins in Malta knocking out hot favourite Kevin Borg! But as said before Tomorrow was a very fresh song so congratulations Malta for not chosing Amber!
