Memories from Junior Eurovision 2006
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – I am personally following as a fan and as an oikotimes editor, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2003. But it was in 2006 when I first visited the event on the spot. Back then it was me (Fotis), Sebastian from Romania and Cyrus Engerer who’s now Chairperson at Consultative Council LGBTI Rights.
The highlight of that trip was my meeting with TVR’s Marianna Rusen. A great person who’s out of the national broadcaster’s Eurovision team anymore and we had a small re-union in 2008.
Another highlight of the event was the great venue and press centre. I still remember the final day when the press received a great catering with amazing specialities and we had a great pre final party at the press centre.
Wondering around the city for dinning, fun and accommodation, I remember Sebastian Secan’s arrangement for our hotel which was in a very central location and very comfortable and still remember the great wine present he gave me to bring and enjoy back in Greece.
It was in the jury rehearsal where the mock voting predicted exactly the winner of Junior Eurovision alongside to Europrediction and some laughed back then saying that Russia would not win. But they did; and I was there in the catwalk between the stage and the green room. I was so exhausted standing up (but it was my choice as I asked access to make good photos – which unfortunately are now lost) and wanted to sit for a while in the catwalk. During the winner’s catwalk though I was sitting next to pyros and I almost got burned!
