May 22 / Eurovision 2015: Grand Final’s Jury Rehearsal
VIENNA, AUSTRIA – Good evening Europe, this is Vienna calling and live from Wiener Stadthalle we bring you the live report of the Grand Final’s Jury Rehearsal in which all 40 participating countries’ juries cast their votes for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest winner. In the meantime you can still vote in Europrediction 2015 powered by oikotimes.com the results of which will be announced tomorrow at 20:00 CET.
and that’s it folks, remember this was my personal view of the show as I am experiencing in Vienna. tomorrow it’s you who will decide the winner, so you better VOTE!
The absolute original idea in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Somehow (if you have big imagination) if Il Volo win tomorrow (something very likely to happen) they will surely get a revenge for Amaury Vassili who was the top favourite and missed the trophy back in 2011.
Unfortunately such a great entry is in-between the two hot favourites (Russia and Italy). Elhaida Dani is giving her own unique performance with a song that really the Eurofans love.
THIS YEAR NO BOOING for Russia! wow that’s a major change after 12 months only! Polina Gagarina who grew up in Greece up to her 9 years of age is receiving a huge applause in the opening and the end of the song. Perefct vocal performance, perfect stage presentation with an outfit that plays with light and graphics. The staging is amazing for this song and the camera work is carefully made. The last part of the song turns the entire Wiener Stadthalle arena into a sold out concert and the juries surely cannot ignore the amazing sentiment created by this song. She is perfect! (and the comments come from me who strongly believe that we shouldn’t go to Russia next year for many many reasons)
Powerful balls with stunning vocals by the Voice of Turkey but not convincing when the combination of the graphics and the capoeira dance act combines. I know that Elnur was not feeling well but I have to admit he delivered the song 100% perfectly. Hour of The Wolf is indeed what we see, Elnur is back in Eurovision since his 2008 debut with Samir, much more matured and prepared to claim a good ranking tomorrow night. Well I know Baku is always welcoming international events so you never know! The bad thing for Elnur is that Russia follows!
Although this song had also copyrights issue with allegedly stolen video clip idea, Nina is giving a powerful gothic performance and we all have to admit that vocally now she is perfect (yes, she wasn’t in her national selection). This is the “warrior” that made it to the final but not sure how convincing can be in the final. I have big range for this one in my predictions as well.
I think it was enough for Hungary to qualify this year in the final, Boggie we have nothing against you, your song, performance and message but it’s song number 22 and we are unfortunately falling asleep.
I wasn’t up and down with this one in the rehearsals: in the first attempt I was amazed, in the second I was afraid. Now again I am afraid as the song although delivered in performance and vocals as it should be the camera work made by the Austrian broadcaster is simply unacceptable. I am so worried about Spain!
Not sure what’s wrong with this entry because Voltaj lead singer delivers the song as it should and he message of the song is clearly presented in the graphic artwork both in the backdrop and the stage floor.
I am not sure about the camera work but I am sure about Aminata. Her vocals are not only amazing and perfect but they are one of the best we have tonight. Ethnic on the other side with electro elements making it one of my top listed songs in my iTunes.
What a magnificent moment. Monika although in a wheel chair she proves she is a fighter like all of us should be. Highlight of her performance is the amazing footage from her moments before the accident when she was standing. I wish her all the best not because I am sorry for her but because she taught me what a FIGHTER is!
Well a copycat of Lena. Yes, I agree it;s descent it’s vocally flawless and Ann Sophie gives a great sexy performance on stage. But still not convinced.
Yes another hit by Zeljko Joksimovic which we met him also here in Vienna. I don’t see why this will do well but then again his song go in the top five just because… Knez gives a flawless vocal performance and gives a brat dance act alongside is backing singers / dancers
I have big range prediction for this one. One the one hand the song is a typical ballad, coming after host country Austria AND A BREAK but besides the perfect vocal performance of Maria Elena, I don’t think this is a memorable entry for the viewers to support it tomorrow night. Still you never know since we have statistics that great voices always do well in Eurovision and Maria Elena was always and is now flawless. Oh and remember that under the current economical chaos between Greece and the EU this entry might indeed be THE LAST BREATH of this country to the Eurovision Song Contest if you know what I mean
TIME FOR THE SECOND BREAK
OK we all know what will happen during the Austrian entry: CHAOS! The Austrians never believed they can host the contest again and now that they got the chance they gave 1000% of themselves in organisation, logistics and volunteerism to achieve indeed the BEST EUROVISION SONG CONTEST EVER MADE. When it comes to The Makemakes somehow it’s like we are back in time, with vintage clothes and retro sounds we all remember our childhood and school / college years. Very nice entry although somehow we know Austria is kinda impossible to win again. Oh and the piano getting burned live on stage!
Black and white lights plunder the arena which goes frantic with this entry. Loïc, the runner up of The Voice Belgique is climbing 4th in the betting odds and trust me Belgium can surprise us tomorrow night by even WIN the 60th Eurovision Song Contest, after all BRUSSELS could get a nice present as the “official capital of Europe”. What I love in this song is the excellent vocals, the contrast of black and white, the robotics acts and the acrobatic moves of the backing singers / dancers. Belgium you stunned me! Hope you win
Has Australia secured a permanent participation in the Eurovision Song Contest? Yes, they discuss this EBU says. Guy Sebastian after his surfing in the Vienna rivers he performs his Aussie entry which is nice and vocally perfect although I wonder how the average European will welcome it when it comes to voting. Personally I was always keen to the idea of having Australia in Eurovision and after 14 years as chief editor my dream came true.
Definitely bad order of appearance for Cyprus and John Karayiannis after Sweden but the song seems sweet. The staging remains as int he national final with black and white version of the camera work and very good and stressless vocal performance by John. Yes, it sounds like Tom Dice (Belgium 2010) but it seems better. Unfortunately don’t see good result for this one somehow, it was though already a huge success for the island of Aphrodite to make it to the Grand Final and they deserve a big bravo for it.
The current top favourite to win the entire thing tomorrow night. Yes he is impressive, he has the best camera work, he is perfect in the vocals, he looks stunning as a man and he does amazing job with the graphics. We all though complain the song is very similar to David Guetta not to mention the little changes to the already copyrighted stage presentation. I have to admit though if it wins, it will be an amazing hit throughout Europe and I can really see (despite all this) ourselves at the Telenor Arena next year.
THE FIRST BREAK OF THE NIGHT
A great entry in a bad running order (since Sweden follows). Mørland and Debrah are having a theatrical presentation of “a monster like me” it’s retro, vocally perfect, with camera work that makes it amazing and it should actually be one of the finalists. Black and white outfits for the artists and tis tune will become a HIT, trust me!
What a powerful performance out of nothing; yes the Serbian Hera Björk is on stage and presents a powerful disco gay anthem song for the viewers of the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Not sure how appealing this thing with the flags will be throughout Europe but for sure the press centre is quite fanatic with her. Not sure about the vocals of Bojana in the opening of the song but for sure she delivers perfectly by the end of it.
A truly happy song with an amazing duet act on stage. Monika and Vaidas doesn’t seem to care what will happen tomorrow night in the scoreboard, they want to share their passion and their message for the people. Kissing on stage makes the song even more impressive and the vocal performance is amazing.
Alhtough we are back to serious business with a descent song, I am really bored with this song. Not because it’s bad – the vocals are excellent and all of the signers are cute – but because of the need of the Armenians to show through Eurovision their message for the 100th anniversary from the Genocide. I think Armenia needs to enter the 21st century (yes the one in which Kim Kardashian is the most famous Armenian person in the globe) and present to-date music and stage acts. Still the Armenian diaspora is big and strong and this one will end up in the top ten for sure somehow.
05. UNITED KINGDOM
This is the joke entry of the year: Bianca and Alex enter the retro stage of Wiener Stadthalle by stair props and Bianca has now awful extension hair in order to cover the microphones in her back. Vocally there is nothing bad but still the song turns out annoying instead of convincing. Null points for the UK, hmm… I think so! Oh Bianca’s dress has neon lights! (very creative)
I am not sure about this one. I love the song but there is something cold in the performance. The performance now, is completely a story telling simple minimal one. The camera work focus on the singers only and the few generic plans show very simple graphics (shadow for Stig and an open door for the entrance of Elina). When I listen to the song, I LOVE this song, when I see it somehow I am not convinced. Who knows I might once again be wrong tomorrow night.
A stunning dance act by Nadav is next on stage with a song that actually is made of three ones: a ballad, a mid tempo song and a oriental dance disco. I am not sure if the choreography seems messy but the camera work is surely destroys any chance of Israel for something good. The amazing Adidas shoes and the last quote “ok three minute we have to go” are making the entire act completey original, funny and beloved. My personal favourite!
What an amazing ballad in a what amazingly jinxed order of appearance. Lisa Angell is stunning with amazing vocals and complete theatrical performance in a simple black dress. The backdrops reminds us the destruction of Europe from the wars something which is completed with the positive message when the drummers are entering the stage both physically and in graphics! Amazing concept and creative artwork.
One of the most beloved entries by the Eurofans this year open tonight’s show and Maraaya are giving a great and convincing performance with their trademark – headphones in the spotlight. Flawless vocals and an amazing tune by Slovenia which could even dream the victory if the running order was better. Still we all hope for the best.
The amazing Vienna Philharmonic opens the grand final followed by a video creating the eye of the stage in various forms in the every day life and of course we have the opening tribute to Udo Jurgens who brought the first ever victory to Austria back in 1966. The Conchita appears from a floor to stage lift and when it’s time to go on stage, she simply flies, where she meets the three hostesses of the night. Then the parade of nations begin and the amazing (but long) opening of the Grand Final is over.
