EUROPE – During the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, which we were able to follow last night with the live broadcast of Rai 4 in Italy, several viewers in Europe reported problems in connecting with Tel Aviv.
In the United Kingdom, where the semi finals are aired by the BBC Four, immediately after the announcement of the ten finalists, the live broadcast was interrupted until the end of the broadcast.
In the Netherlands, however, the comment by Jan Smit and Cornald Maas on NPO 1 (the equivalent of our Rai 1, which in this case is part of the AVROTROS) has been lost for a certain period of time. Similar problem registered in Northern Macedonia.
Even in Germany, with the broadcast offered by One (the former EinsFestival, which falls under the ARD), problems similar to those in the United Kingdom occurred, with the feed of the live broadcast that was lost for a few minutes.
In France, where the rights belong to France Télevisions and the semi-finals are broadcast on France 4, during the performances of Portugal (Conan Osiris – Telemóveis) and Belgium (Eliot – Wake up) there were several problems with audio reception.
It is not the first time that similar incidents have occurred: in 2011 there were problems with the comment from Düsseldorf, which was lost in part of the countries that were broadcasting the first semi-final on May 10th.
Then the NDR, host broadcaster, apologized through an official statement, situating the problem between the commentators’ booths and the main control.
No problem seems to have occurred in Italy, where the first semi-final was broadcast on Rai 4 with the comment made by Federico Russo and Ema Stokholma directly from Tel Aviv.
