LOREEN AND EUPHORIA LOST IN P3 GULD AWARDS

Last night the annual P3 Guld Awards took place at a big ceremony in Gothenburg. The (really quite amazing) stage played host to some great pop performances, from the likes of Scandipop favourites Loreen, Icona Pop, Alina Devecerski, Linnea Henriksson, and Gnucci. And the Loreen performance was particularly of note, as OH MY GOD she finally wore white! Not black (ok, a little bit of black). White. She did ‘In My Head’.
Both Loreen and ‘Euphoria’ were unfortunately snubbed in every category they were nominated in. Although ‘Euphoria’ lost out to Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’ in the Årets Låt (Song) category, we can’t be too displeased. Årets Artist went to not Loreen, nor Petra Marklund, nor Laleh, and nor Alina Devecerski.
Instead it went to Linnea Henriksson – who had earlier that night lost out in the Årets Nykomling (Newcomer) to Norlie & KKV. Erm…..how does that work out then?! Incidentally, Årets Pop went El Perro Del Mar. No we’ve never heard of them either.
P3 Gold Awards is the music prize of Swedish Radio’s channel P3 – the young channel. P3 Gold Awards acknowledge and highlights the greatest efforts and contributions to Swedish popular music the very last year, and have done so the last decade. The award show 2013 is held in front of a live audience at Scandinavium, Gothenburg’s biggest indoor venue.
The prize has nine different categories, with five nominees in each. Since 2012 the results in all nine is an all-listener/fan/audience affair. However special jury groups, consisting of people with great knowledge in popular music, selects the nominees.
The categories 2013 is Artist of the Year, Group of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Dance music of the Year, Pop of the Year, Rock/Metal of the year, Hip Hop/Soul of the year and the Golden Mic – given to the best live performer/performing act of the year.
Internationally acclaimed Swedish artists like Robyn, The Hives, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, September, In Flames and The Cardigans have all performed on previous P3 Gold award shows. In 2007 Brett Anderson, the singer of the British band Suede, handed out one of the awards.
