LIVE: SLOVENIA DECIDES 2014
LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA – Live from Ljubljana the Slovenian national selection EMA is taking place. A total of seven artists are vying for a ticket to Copenhagen. Taking us through the night will be host Ula Furlan. The winning song and artist will be determined in two rounds of public televoting. The first one will determine the top top two. They will then proceed to a sing off and a winner will be chosen in the second round of voting.
Omar Naber – “I Won’t Give Up”
Slovenia’s Eurovision representative from 2006 is first up. This is a good pop rock song. Omar’s vocals are very good. He is accompanied by three female guitarists and a drummer. Overall a powerful start to the night and the singer gets a big response from the audience.
Nermin Puškar & Samuel Lucas – “Masquerade”
An interesting song where the cello plays the central role. Excellent vocals from both singers and their voices compliment each other’s creating a nice feel. It is a powerful piece and could stick out from the Eurovision pack.
Bilbi – “To ni blues” (This is not blues)
All the singers are wearing very colourful clothing and have a dance routine going on.This is quite a chirpy song and the audience is clapping along. The main singer’s vocals are excellent. However, the song is not as memorable as the previous performance. Extra points for singing in Slovenian.
NUDE – “It’s Gonna Be OK!”
Again, very good vocals. “It’s Gonna Be OK!” is a very contemporary and western style song. Guitarists and a drummer accompany the main singer. Near the end of the song, the singer takes a megaphone and sings through it.
Rudi Bučar feat. Elevators – “Tja”
The start of the song features lots of guitaris and drums as if will will be listening to some heavy rock, however, the vocals from Rudi are quite soft but the song is well sung. “Tja” is not that powerful and could be lost amongst the more powerful songs. However, it’s nice that it’s sung in Slovenian. Overall, a good song but is just missing that extra something.
Tinkara Kovač – “Spet (Round and Round)”
A bit of an ethno feel to the song at the beginning. Tinkara sings in both Slovenian and English. The vocals are good. Not so sure about Tinkara’s wardrobe. She is wearing a black vest with a baby blue dress underneath. Similar to the performance before her, a good song that just lacks that extra factor. Must admit that the Slovenian parts of the song sound much better than the English ones. It’s gets a big applause from the audience.
Muff – “Let Me Be (Myself)”
Very powerful vocals from this one. She gets a big applause from the audience as she completes the intro of the song. The female vocalist is wearing a red dress. A good song and performance and with a great draw in the national final it could be a contender for the sing off. The audience went nuts for this performance.
