KYIV, UKRAINE – Welcome to the grand final of the Ukrainian national selection. Dmytro Tankovich and Oleksandr Pedan will welcome the six finalists coming from the two semifinals and jury with public voting will determine the winner. in case of a tie, public voting will prevail. The jury is made of: Konstantin Meladze, Ukraine’s 2004 representative and winner Ruslana and Andriy Danylko who represented Ukraine in 2007 as Verka Serduchka. The oikotimes.com visitors predict Jamala win inning tonight but Sunsay and Hardkiss are also considered big favourites.
The show began with a feature of various Eurovision songs from the past fowled by praising the Ukrainian victory while the hosts welcome the European audience through the lifestream. The jury introduced and Andriy was also asked how he feels after last week’s controversy with Viktoria Petryk. The six acts are ready to perform.
DID YOU KNOW?
Two favourites in Ukraine’s national final have come under scrutiny after it was determined that one has been performed on numerous occasions prior to the national selection and the other is too political. Sunsay’s “Love Manifest” has been performed on several occasions in 2015. On YouTube, the song can be found posted in February 2015. This is contrary to Eurovision rules and could be disqualified by the EBU. On the other hand, Jamala’s “1944” has been accused of being too political with the lyrics “I couldn’t spend my youth there, because you took away my peace” at a time of ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine. Furthermore, the lyrics of the chorus are the same as the ones used in the traditional Crimean Tatar song “Ey, güzel Kirim”, with just the lines being flipped. (by Luka Popovic)
Brunettes Shoot Blondes, song “Every Monday”
The band is performing on high props and flawless they deliver their act in a smooth and romantic way. This act would be perfect for radio and it sounds as if it’s a British pop. Great start for the night and the band seem quite happy and the audience is excited. The jury expresses positive comments and Ruslana says that jury opinion has to be honest despite the public opinion about their thoughts.
Nuangels, song “Higher”
Very interesting international tune with the two ladies surrounded by 3 female and 1 male backing vocalist. You will love this song especially in the clubs and I wouldn’t mind see it in the Eurovision Song Contest. All of them are dressed in pink and the audience give a very warm applause for them. The powerful vocals are really appreciated. When the hosts ask the audience, everyone cheers for them. The jury though are negative, they didn’t like it.
The Hardkiss, song “Helpless”
This is suppose to be a favourite but I really cannot understand why. There is too much goth and space style in this presentation and the song turns a bit monotonous. The vocals are strong and the song is well delivered but I truly don’t understand the entire exaggeration. The jury like the song but Ruslana thinks that this entry somehow flirts with German votes and doesn’t understand why.
Jamala, song “1944”
What can we say about tis entry. Jamala gives an outstanding vocal performance, even better than the on we saw in the semi final and the ethnic elements in the song with the modern ambient electro sound makes it very strong and powerful to the international viewers. Though the lyrics talk about a historic event which directly implies the issue of Ukraine with Russia. Ruslana, who sings as well during her commentary, believes that Jamala can win Eurovision.
SunSay, song “Love Manifest”
One more favourite and one more controversial song. NTU/STB seem to ignore the previous presentation of the song two years ago and a year ago among thousands of audience based probably on the Danish case earlier this year with Anja’s song. There singer begins performing with the audience behind with a huge curtain covering them. Totally international tune and the lead singer is giving a very good modern fresh and rock pop vocal performance. Definitely they could win tonight’s final and could bring excitement to Eurovision 2016 as for sure they can be favourites. The stage presentation (actually for all the participants) is amazing as NTU/STB made great stage and light effects. The audience use their mobile lights (or led lights, not sure) creating an incredible atmosphere of unity and harmony. The jury discuss the issue of breaching the rules with Andriy wanting them to disqualify and Konstandin not sure about their stage presentation. Ruslana stunned me turning her commentary into political discussion. Shame!
Pur:Pur, song “We Do Change”
A sweet song with the lead singer really dressed like an alien and really cannot get any guess why she appeared on stage like that. Backing vocals behind her opening umbrellas upside down (in my culture this is jinx actually). Besides the flawless vocal performance the only thing that this tune makes me is to sleep. Nothing interesting.
so that’s it from the live streaming and reporting for this show and we will be back with a new post and the announcement of the winner or any further development about Sunsay in the meantime.
