EDITORIAL – Here we are, the Eurovision season is now open since any song published from today can take part to our favourite European event !
The countdown has started and in 257 days, the Swedish capital city will host the grand final of Eurovision and Stockholm is already getting ready for the event. The Ericsson Globe will welcome about 16,000 spectators for a second time since the 2000 contest. In a few weeks’ time we will know the names of the hosts (though Petra and Måns are predicted as the hot favourite for the job). As every year, eurofans will be eager to discover the logo, theme and stage of this contest, but we can already expect a great edition from SVT, live from the “capital of Scandinavia” from May 10th to May 14th.
Even though the final list of participating countries won’t be published before late December or early January, many countries (26 so far) have declared their interest, with the coming back of Turkey and Ukraine. In the months to come, many questions will be answered:
Will Croatia, Bosnia or Slovakia return? Will Montenegro or FYR Macedonia withdraw (after their jury votes were cancelled last year)? Will Australia participate again? Will some other non-European country be invited to join? Will Belgrade record of 43 participating countries be broken? ….
The national selection period also seems promising. Though no artist has been announced yet (a premiere in years), lots of countries are getting ready for their selections. Once again, the landmarks of the season will be the big festivals like Festivali Këngës (Albania, late December), Sanremo (Italy, mid-February), Melodi Grand Prix (Denmark and Norway), not to mention Melodifestivalen (Sweden, March).
Excitement, rumours, gossips, surprises and a little drama will be, once more, the motto of this Eurovision season, and your favourite website will cover it all!
So, “HAPPY SEPTEMBER 1st” everyone!
