Latvia 2008: Jānis Vaišļa passes away aged 46
RIGA, LATVIA – Jānis Vaišļa, who represented Latvia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest as part of the group Pirates of the Sea, has passed away aged 46, following his battle with a heart condition.
Vaišļa was due to undergo a heart transplant in Berlin, however, sadly passed away before the procedure could be performed. Jānis was associated with a number of entertainment acts in Latvia and was a radio host.
Jānis Vaišļa, Roberto Meloni and Aleksandra Kurusova formed Pirates of the Sea in order to represent Latvia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Wolves of the Sea”. The entry achieved 12th position in the grand final in Belgrade.
