KAISA VALA – INTERNATIONAL SHAMAN
Kaisa Vala, who took part in the Finnish NF for Eurovision 2012, has recently released her debut album entitled “International Shaman”. The album contains her UMK entry “Habits of human beings” and was classified by the Finnish media as “escapist and eccentric”. After she featured on the December cover of Sue Magazine, Kaisa was called by the news publication Helsingin Sanomat as the “Princess of Art Pop”.
Kaisa described her album as a “concept album with an overall theme of music been played and heard in an imaginary space of comfort between life and death. The songs are stories told by people and animals who do not really know which end of the line they belong to”.
About her UMK experince Kaisa Vala stated:
“Thanks to UMK l went from being a struggling, frustrated singer-songwriter to an artist gaining mainstream attention. The UMK jury saw the potential I knew I had, and quite frankly, gave me a break and a chance to either prove it or lose it. They knew I had been playing my piano in small clubs and pubs for years. I did not have a big record company to support me, so I had to put my foot down and decide that I am worthy of having a place in music business as an independent artist. And thanks to UMK, I am also one step closer to starting my international career, which will be my next big hurdle as a musician. I have decided to jump far”.
