Jose María Purón criticises TVE upon Eurovision choices
MADRID, SPAIN – In a recent interview, Jose María Purón, musician and composer severely criticised TVE for the negative results that Spain has achieved at Eurovision. Purón is famous for composing the song sang by Anabel Conde “Vuelve Conmigo” that in 1995 achieved a runner-up spot for Spain.
Purón claims that a strong national selection process could save the result for Spain at Eurovision but that TVE continue to wait every year until the last minute to choose a song or performer, without any idea of how to put it all together.
“We are in October and TVE have yet to announce the selection process for 2015”, Purón went on “worse still, they probably haven’t even thought about it yet”.
He is adament that the worst results for Spain have been when TVE chose the song and singer separately, something that for Purón doesn’t work, however in 2000, Purón composed the song “Colgado de un sueño”, performed by Serafín Zubiri and came in 18th position. Spain have only ever won the contest two times and one of those was a three way tie.
