JESC 2013: OPEN REHEARSAL LIVE REPORT
KYIV, UKRAINE – Welcome to the first dress rehearsal which is open for the media and press. The team of oikotimes.com is live in the Palats Ukraina arena and report you live what is going on. The signal is on and the opening act begins.
The opening of the Junior Eurovision 2013 is a fairytale with lots of magical aspects. We have some delays and the entire show will begin again in few minutes. The show is back on air and this opening reminds me the 2006 Junior Eurovision opening with allthis kids and grown ups as if they came up from Ukrainian fairytales. The dancing act with the kids leads to the kids parade under a special DJ set with all countries parading on stage.
Timur is presented on stage and does magic tricks with his magic box from where Zlata is coming out. The hosts are talking about the voting procedure and then air a video of Junior Eurovision 2009 which was held also in Ukraine.
A glipms of the postcards. Recorded in blue box you can see the kids walking around a micro version of their home city and then the artist is introducing his song and shares his song message with us. Very nice production and very clever idea.
Sweden is was about to start but they had to go again. Eliias is giving an average performance most likely saving his voice. There seems to be bad co ordination of the sound level with the microphone levels as we barely hear the songs. Two drummers accopany Eliias on stage. Blue and orange colors for this entry, excellent camera work but still the music is so low and this allow us to hear Eliias been off key in the entire song.
Rustam is dedicating the song to Junior Eurovision fans and he shares his love for a girl. Azerbaijan is now on stage. The problem with the sound in comparison with the voice, continues. The camera work is fine and stage has many colours for this act. Rustam seems much more confident today and vocally he seems to be quite perfect! His sparkling eyes are going to make you love him! His fellow dancers on stage use colored stripes to form a guitar and play their music.
With very impressive graphics and candy props on stage Monica and her friends take the stage on behalf of Armenia. Interesting performance, quite adequate to junior level and will be loved by children. Interesting tune although it is clear it reminds us the Georgian entry of Candy Group!
San Marino’s Michele Perniola presents us in the postcard his message: to bring the Italian sunshine to all over Europe. Dark stage for the opening of the song and Michele is giving a unique show as a lead showman. Vocally I am not impressed at all, the song it’s maybe too Italian Michael Jackson. To be fair, this boy loves MJ so we have to respect his song choice. Some consider it a favourite. I don’t think it will win it though. But if San Marino wins I will definitely demand JESC 2014 to take place in Italy!!!
The next song comes from the 80s and Barbara’s microphone is not working. Weirdly the country is presented (in the post card) as MACEDONIA which is not the official EBU name of the country in this contest. OK besides the tragic choreography Barbara’s voice is simply dreadful and Barbara looses her breath all the time stopping in between the song.
Ukraine is next and the song sounds great. Green lazer bins are used on stage. Sofia is not perfect in vocal terms and still we need loweder music but overall this is a song that I would also love to hear in the clubs! Very nice choice. If she sings well on Saturday night will also score high.
a small interval act with kid dancers is taking place on stage
Another strong entry comes on stage. It’s Belarus and Ilya Volkov. Perfect tune and great dance act. Ilya is smiling and following the cameras, the work of which is great. I am suspecting this one could surprise us on Saturday night! Ilya has 5 female dancers who are simply delivering an excellent choreography! I never thought this song can go high in my views, I kinda thought it’s a song to ignore but when you see it on Saturday you will vote for it, for sure! Minsk 2014?
Rafael from Moldova says that his song is “how to become better persons” and here is his performance. Four female dancers accompany Rafael on stage on props and Rafael is giving a much better vocal performance than the one yesterday. Still we listen more of the voice and almost nothing of the music. I am not sure the camera work is fine. The backdrops present various things like the earth, bubbles and generic shapes.
Georgia’s Smile Shop promise everyone to smile with their song. The vintage costumes and the happy tune with disco elements make this song somehow a darkhorse for the final trophy. No vocal problems here as they all sound perfect. Can this mean that Georgia will win… again? Hmm the running order helps them a lot. The song is not abd at all although not my Junior taste! But you never know with Georgia in JESC!
The Dutch twins are next representing The Netherlands. Really a very smart and catchy song. Although the title is driving my thoughts to “another” dimension (but that’s me and my dirty mind). I love this song (although I don’t know why). Excellent camera work and the red and blue colors fit this performance. Very good choice. This should score very high on Saturday!
If you close your eyes and just listen to the Maltese entry you might think is an afro american diva singing at the Oscars. I am impressed and I am simply speechless. Cannot find words in English t describe how amazing this girl is. The stage is magical and presents raindrops in various shades of blue and purple. Oh God! I think this is a true chance for Malta to get the trophy! I hope the win it, as they will be obliged to seriously think about hosting and I WANT TO GO TO VALLETTA NEXT NOVEMBER!
Last but definitely not least the Russian representative storms the stage with her amazing love boat, her great dance tune and her powerful voice. I am seriously thinking that we will have a big battle on Saturday. Somehow my favourite is Malta but I suggest you forget the word favourites this year. It’s going to be a hell in the scoreboard.
FAVOURITES AFTER OPEN REHEARSAL
Malta, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia are the ones for me that can take the trophy on Saturday night. I hope by the jury rehearsal to finally clear the picture when it comes to the favourites.
The interval act started with a recap of the songs and Emmelie de Forest will perform afterwards (although she wasn’t in the rehearsal today). We didn’t see the acts of Ruslana and Zlata and there seems to be one more surprise guest but no one says anything here.
Then we move to the common song with all the participants on stage. Then the mock voting is suppose to begin. Let’ see if they will do that today. Ruslana is on stage though performing a very nice “wild dances” version with kids choir in a dance RnB style!
Anastasiya Petryk (2012 Junior Eurovision winner) performs an English song and then we will see Zlata’s performance while we are kinda thrilled with the anticipation for the mock voting. Zlata’s performance begin with another song and Zlata wear a black leather dress. Then we see her singing in a projection on moving fabrics, she changed outfit and with a new white minimal dress she performs “Gravity”. AMAZING!
MOCK VOTING WINNER
