January 12 🇪🇺 the latest #Eurovision headlines from Russia, Ireland and more
PORTUGAL – Let’s start this morning news briefing with a bloopers video from the presentation video fo the four hosts for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
IRELAND – With many rumours regarding which artist RTÉ will select for Lisbon (including: John Lydon — aka Johnny Rotten, Samantha Mumba, B*Witched, Heathers) is gearing up its Eurovision selection process. Eoghan McDermott, known from hosting the JESC national final, former The Voice of Ireland host, posted some photos on Instagram showing clearly that the selection is ongoing. Song titles, unknown number of artist(s) and jury comments can be visible in the photos (although scrapped). It seems that only one decent song was found in that selection
RUSSIA – According to Russian fan sites, Julia Samoilova has prepared two songs for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest although the Russian national broadcaster hasn’t yet revealed its plans and intentions for Lisbon. It was clear though from last year that the Kremlin itself (and we mean the government) was keen to send Julia to Eurovision after the unfair treatment of the singer by the Ukrainian national broadcaster which hosted the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest edition.
UKRAINE – It’s clear the power of the social media; Tayanna is bidding again to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest and already decided to have a social media competition for the song which will be submitted in Ukraine. The singer launched two polls through Ukrainian radio stations and the song “Kvitka” won the fan poll. The problem with the song is that it has been released prior to September 1st, something which is against the EBU rules. So it seems the singer is in dead end. Tayanna along with Melvin and Kazka electro duo are the three artists currently confirming their interest to submit a song for Visbir, the Ukrainian national selection.
ROMANIA – This weekend Romanian national broadcaster will air for the first time the pre-selection process. From January 12th to January 14th we will see all auditions including the songs and the comments by the jury.
MALTA – PBS are currently looking into the possibility that an entry in this year’s Malta Eurovision Song Contest has breached competition rules after claims that Aidan Cassar’s entry ‘Dai Laga’ used a publicly available production track that can be purchased online, PBS CEO Charles Dalli has told The Malta Independent. The song, which is apparently an original composition from Aidan, appears to use the production sample titled ‘(Justin Bieber, Major lazer type) Come Alive Prod By Lttb’ that can be bought on BeatStars.com for $30. Dalli did not expressly reply to a question asking whether this had been the case with Aidan’s entry. The newsroom of the Maltese newspaper Independent has attempted to contact Aidan for a comment but is yet to receive a reply.
SPAIN – Singer and composer Pablo Alborán said through his social networks that he would like to compose the Eurovision Song for Amaia who will probably compete in the Eurovision Gala of Operación Triunfo on January 29th. We remind you that in a recent interview, the favourite OT participant, Amaia, said that she would ideally love thee idea to represent Spain with Alfred with who she has developed a love affair.
IRELAND – Eurovision 2011 and 2012 participants, Jewdard are revealing their brand new look during their participation in the show Celebrity 100% Hotter. Fans were left stunned as they watched the Irish twins get transformed on Celebrity 100% Hotter – and they weren’t happy with the results. The 26-year-old brothers are known for their unique and quirky sense of style, which often see them dress the same way in bright and bold colours. However, after admitting that they don’t want to be seen as the same, and feared that fans wanted them to remain looking young, they handed themselves over to the makeover team for a more adult style. By the time they were placed in front of the makeover mirror and their transformation was complete, their usually tight and bright clothing was traded in for loose fitting, monochrome outfits. As part of the look, Edward wore white linen trousers and John was given a slicked back hairstyle with a jewel in the back. The pair were seen praising the transformation, which left them looking more different than ever after years of being mistaken for each other.
