Italy 2015: Sanremo final underway; recap of the week
Olivier Rocher (France)
SANREMO, ITALY – Here it is, the 65th edition of Eurovision’s ancestor “Il Festival Della Canzone Italian Di Sanremo”. This year’s edition is, once again, spread over 5 nights, live from Teatro Ariston. Our hosts are Carlo Conti, together with Emma (winner of Sanremo 2012 and Eurovision entrant last year), Arisa (winner of Sanremo 2014) and Rocío Muñoz Morales (a Spanish model and TV presenter).
After a very long opening (a true Sanremese tradition), we get to discover 10 of the artists competing in the “Big” category. At the end of the show, a “king of” chart is revealed, according to the public vote and the press vote. The chart is announced alphabetically, in order just to know who are the bottom 4 songs, that are at risk and may not reach the final. So far the results are: Annalisa, Malika Ayane, Chiara, Dear Jack, Nek, and Nesli are “safe”, while Lara Fabian, Alex Britti, DiMichele & Coruzzi and Gianluca Grignanni are in the “danger zone”.
All songs from the “Big” category will be performed again on February 12th and out of the 20 entries, only 16 will reach the final. The “invited artists” of tonight were: Italian superstar Tiziano Ferro, Italian legends Al Bano & Romina Power, US band Imagine Dragons
The “Newcomer” competition started tonight, in the form of duels. 2 artists qualified for the semi final: KuTso – “Elisa” and Enrico Nigiotti – “Qualcosa Da Decidere” Then back to the “Big” competition, with the performance of the 10 remaining songs. Once again, at the end of the evening, we had an indicative chart: Lorenzo Fragola, Irene Grandi, Marco Masini, Raf, Il Volo and Nina Zilli are “safe” while Bianca Atzei, Biggio & Mandelli, Moreno and Anna Tatangelo are in the “danger zone”. Now that all songs have been heard, we can predict the early favourite, given the reaction in the audience: Il Volo, Nek and Marco Masini could win this edition… One of the highlights of the evening was the performance of Conchita Wurst, who sang “Heroes” and gave a short interview to Carlo Conti.
End of the first step of the “Newcomer” contest with two other duels. The lucky winners are: Gioavanni Caccamo – “Ritornerò Da Te “ (an early favourite) and Amara – “Credo”. Another competition took place tonight, the “Cover prize”. Each one of the “Big” artists had to perform a cover of a Sanremo hit song. The winner of the night was Nek, with the song “Se Telefonando”. Could the singer win both prizes this year?
And we are just few hours before the grand final of Sanremo Festival 2015 with the fourth night coming to an end where 16 out of 20 “Campioni” qualified to the final
