INTERVIEW: KOKKINA HALIA – GREECE
Fotis Konstantopoulos (Greece)
Kokkina Halia became known to the Eurovision world as they participated in the Greek National Final 2011. They might have not made it to Dusseldorf but they shine just fine in the sky of Greek music industry! Recently oikotimes.com met them at 4711 where they perform live every Friday and Saturday. Let’s see how they are:
HEY GUYS: WHY DID YOU NAMED AS RED CARPETS?
Originally the idea came from George Theofanous (composer for Cyprus 1992, 1994, 2002). For us it’s symbolic: red is the color of passion, love for music and carpet could represent the ground, a solid and down to earth approach we have and try to maintain as human beings.
SO WHAT’S THE SPIRIT AT 4711 CLUB EVERY WEEK?
It’s a party every week indeed. Every saturday we have another artist as a guest. It is honestly the first time we perform every friday and saturday in a single venue for a certain period of time, we try to make everyone enjoy the show, we have different music genres for all music tastes. We feel at home here at 4711 Club and anyone dropping by will see it: Big Party Ongoing!
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY DURING A LIVE PERFORMANCE?
Audience’s energy, the general mood and the repertoire are the basic elements equally with the equally with the interaction developed during the stage performances.
LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR NF 2011 PARTICIPATION
It’s honest to say we were not ready for this! The outcome though was not that bad. It is an extra experience which will help us move forward. This contest has many good but also many weird elements and needs good handling, something which can work out eventually for an artist.
WOULD YOU RE-ENTER A GREEK SELECTION?
Maybe. Vague answer but there are too many factors to determine such a decision. The song style we potentially might submit depends on the mood of the band and might not be like the one you know from the 2011 Greek NF.
WHAT’S THE MOST WEIRD FAN REACTION YOU EVER HAD?
WOW! Various stuff: graphite in our exterior house walls, face portraits, torned T-shirts, surprise-hug attack on stage, hair pulling and at some point invading of privacy! Though we have to say all in good intention and spirit.
HOW LONG WILL YOU PERFORM AT 4711?
We will be here at least until end of holidays and then we will see. We also perform live in various other places but not so often of course due to the crisis and due to the fact we already perform on Fridays and Saturday.
ANY NEW SONG ON THE WAY?
It’s ready!!! It’s ballad alike and you will love the lyrics. Maybe one of the best songs we released so far, at least this is what the band thinks. Get ready!
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR SPARE TIME?
Not always. But I think if you focus on the project you love it doesn’t bother you. Don’t forget that we dont have a free time always but … in order to succeed you should never give up! The band gathers mostly for music matters but we also wonder around Athens for cinema, coffee, lunch – just to see what’s going on in the city!
