In brief: the latest from JESC voting, Latvia, Armenia, Germany and more
GEORGIA – The new voting system for the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest which will take place on November 26th has been clarified. In the first phase there will be online voting for the audience as of November 24th at 15:59 CET. They will have to see a recap of the songs before entering the voting platform which will be available at www.junioreurovision.tv. The recap of the songs will include 1 minute of the participant’s performance during the rehearsals. Online voters will be able to vote up to five of their favourites. The second phase will kick off after the live performances concluded during the live show and will be available for 15 minutes. First and second phase of online voting will count as 505 of the public voting. The jury will decide the rest 50% of the result. Jury voting will be cast by national jury panels all over the participating countries made of adults and kids.
LATVIA – The LTV initiative to launch the People’s Jury with the online voters liking or disliking a song submitted for the 2018 Supernova edition seems to have ended with 73% of the results into dislikes in each of the 63 songs. Supernova 2018 producers say that have more than 152,000 votes (which means 2,400 (approx) per song). More than 110,000 of the votes are dislikes. But the producers of the show claim there is a song which is loved by almost all and they consider it as a winner. No revelation of the song has been made though although fan sites claim it’s either Madara Fogelmane’s ballad, Esamība or Kristiāna’s Flashbacks. Next was the live audition on November 5th for which show producer Ilze Jansone, stated: “It is important for us to give different tasks to the participants at the beginning of the competition to test them in different, not so comfortable situations, so the first auditions will take place in the Alfa shopping mall.” Thirty qualifiers proceed to that phase and according to LTV 10 of them were unanimously the choice of the jury. There is no information how many songs qualified although we expect 18 to 24 acts. Line up for Supernova 2018 will be revealed in late January.
GERMANY – What happens with the confusing idea of NDR / ARD to use a European Panel with 100 members made of enthusiasts and viewers of the Eurovision Song Contest not directly involved with the contest in any way. NDR gave more details about this procedure. The European Panel with its 100 members will be responsible to select 5 of the finalists for the national final and they will also have a say during the German national final. 10,000 applications are already in the NDR platform and they are deriving from all over Europe. NDR / ARD makes it now clear that these 100 jury members will be only Germans. Thomas Schreiber says: “The scores of the German audience in recent years have always been very close to the actual result of the Eurovision final. Therefore we are only looking for German people to represent the European taste in music for the Europe panel. German televoters don’t care about neighbourly aspects. In Germany, televoters are willing to give every single song the same chance.” In terms of the national selection, German national broadcaster already has 1,000 submissions which will be narrowed first into 200 and then into 20 which will go to the music workshops until the juries will narrow them to five. In the national final, international jury, European panel and public tele voting will determine the 2018 German representative for Lisbon.
GREECE – INK is a group that submitted a bid to ERT and we got to know that today. Since they are eliminated from the 2018 Greek national final they decided to release their song online. The song is titled “Thimamai” (I remember) penned by Takis Damaschis of C:Real (Greek NF 2015).
ARMENIA – Member of Genealogy, the 2015 Armenian representatives, Tamar Kaprelian seems to bid for Eurovision again after posting a Eurovision tagged post on her social media. She asks the fans to follow her on the journey to Lisbon and posted some of her song lyrics. Although American she became an Armenian citizen in 2015 and she is of course eligible to participate in Depi Evratesil 2018, the show through which the country will decide its participation.

Though Australian HoD, Paul Clarke said that a national final show is a big project and it needs time to be implemented. SBS cannot guarantee that they will participate in Eurovision after 2018 since they participate every year upon EBU’s invitation without having a permanent position in the contest.

However, the flag of my country had given a weight to carry.”

The groupie claimed to be interested to participate in Melodifestivalen for 6th time but they want to do it with the right song this is why (according to the newspaper) they already declined a song by a well known composer. The newspaper also claims that singer-songwriter Ida Redig, royal wedding songwriter John Lundvik and YouTube star Olivia Eliasson are due to make their Mello debuts.
