In brief: Belgian song in English, Malta announced finalists and FYR Macedonia withdrawing?
GREECE – Greek national broadcaster announced the jury which will decide upon the submitted entries for the Greek national selection. The artistic jury (or expert panel as known around Europe) is made of people who are clearly influenced by quality Greek ethnic songs and are: Anastasios Simeonides (chairman), Retros Dourdoubakis, Dimitris Mistakes, Alexis Kostis, Michalis Messinis, Andreas Pylarinos, Giannis Bach Spiropoulos, Pantazis Tsaras.
FYR MACEODNIA – Regional press claim that FYR Macedonia is pulling back from participating in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest as the deadline for withdrawing without penalty was due yesterday. The reason is that the cost for the broadcaster to participate in the contest has risen but the country cannot afford paying for a participation which the ;last years have brought nothing in the scoreboard for the country. We cannot confirm the information yet though.
BELGIUM – Laura Groeseneken (aka Sennek) is the Belgian participant in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. At the moment she and her team are seeking the best possible option regarding the song which will be performed in English. Sennek is also a composer. You might have know her from her collaboration with Alex Callier when they composed the song for Hooverphonic, “Gravity”. Did you know that besides music and composition, Sennek is also a visual merchandiser at IKEA?
GREECE – In the meantime, the hot name of the current line up for the national selection, Areti Ketime, spoke to OGAE Greece about her participation in the ERT submissions revealing that 10 years ago she was proposed to participate in Eurovision but she thought it was too soon. Back then she was a hot name due to her participation in the opening ceremony of the Athens 2004 summer Olympic Games.
FRANCE – France 2’s Carolina Got confirmed today that national selection for Lisbon will be named “Destino Eurovisión” and will be hosted by Garou as previously reported by oikotimes.com. There will be televised show for the selection of the representative and song something which will be achieved by national, international jury and the public voting. The submission process of course is still open for those interested to participate.
MALTA – Maltese national broadcaster narrowed the 30 preliminary qualifiers to 16 which will participate in MESC, the Maltese national final selection show through which the country will decide its participation in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Most likely MESC 2018 will take place in February at either the Mediterranean Conference Center in Valletta or Malta Fairs & Convention Centre in Ta’Qali.
