Iceland gears up for Eurovision 2015
REYKJAVIK, ICELAND – Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV decided to organize Söngvakeppnin again next year. The call for the songs is now opened and it will last until 20th of October.
The authors of music and lyrics must have Icelandic citizenship or at least a resident and domiciled on Iceland from September 1st this year and be until the Eurovision Song Contest.
One composer can submit only two songs. All of the songs must be performed in Icelandic, while the language may be chaged for the performance in the final of Söngvakeppnin.
It was not revealed how many song will participate in the national final, but we do know that it will be held in February and the half of the selected songs will have at least one woman in the team.

Iceland joined the Eurovision family in 1986 and since then they didn’t participate only two times – in 1998 and 2002. Their first representative was the band ICY and it ended up 16th. Since the semifinals were introduced Iceland’s stroke of luck started in 2008, in Belgrade, as they’ve qualified for the final every single time since. They haven’t won the contest yet, but Selma & Yohanna were the runner ups in 1999 and 2009. Iceland also ended up last two times, once with nul points – in 1989.
