Hera Björk is one of six finalists in the Viña del Mar International Song Contest 2013, where she will perform her song Because You Can. The contest is a part of the annual Viña del Mar International Song Festival, the oldest and biggest music festival in Latin America. This year’s festival will take place February 24 to March 1, and among artists scheduled to perform are Elton John, Jonas Brothers, Daddy Yankee, and Gloria Trevi.

The song contest will be held at the Quinta Vergara amphitheatre and features two categories, pop and folk music. Former participants include international pop star Shakira, and the 2012 winner Denise Faro from Italy.

“I’m very excited about the Viña 2013. It’s such a large and prestigious event, I mean it’s been an important part of the Latin American music scene for so long. And it’s an amazing opportunity for me. We’ve been rehearsing for a few weeks and by now everything is ready, but it’s still a bit unrealistic that I’m a part of this years Viña del Mar contest. Maybe it has something to do with trying to find a swimsuit in the middle of winter here in Iceland,” said Hera after the final rehearsal before the journey to Chile.

Because You Can was written by Hera Björk, Christina Schilling, Camilla Gottschalck, Jonas Gladnikoff, and Örlygur Smári.
