Greece 2015: who do the Eurofans want to see in the NF?
ATHENS, GREECE – Recently I posted my thoughts on ten potential names I wish I see in the Greek national final for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Some of the from the utopia of mine (Despina Vandi, Sakis Rouvas, Natassa Bofilliou etc.) and some more realistic (like Demy, Tamta and Eleni Foureira).
ABOUT THE EDITORIAL WINNERS
In the editorial about Greece 2015 which can be read here, I also added a poll about those ten names. Newly established boy band Boys & Noise won the poll by landslide (so far). That’s no surprise for me as they are the most well fan organised band in Greece with thousands of devoted followers no matter is they are supporting online or real time their favourite band.
The winners of my poll (although I personally will not participate in the 2015 national final, mostly because there are real concurs about their vocal skills in live performances and also concerns about how boy bands do in the Eurovision Song Contest in general) include also the two favourite names most Greek Eurofans anticipate to see on the stage of the Greek national final: Demy and Tamta.
WHAT ABOUT REALISTIC POTENTIAL PARTICIPANTS?
Demy, to be honest, is seen in the Greek music industry and fans as the new Helena Paparizou. modest but with star quality on stage, her beautiful voice can really amaze you. After all she has a somehow Eurovision background if we consider as such her duet performance with Dima Bilan in the 2013 national final. Not to forget that every song she releases gets automatically number one in Greece.
Tamta on the other hand is a true diva. When interviewed Tamta is somehow shy, but when she gets on stage she transforms into a star! How she does that? Well if I knew I would be Tamta, right? She is often considered within the music industry as a true soldier following instructions and working her ass off to make things perfect for each performance needed to be delivered.
THE ISSUE OF ELENI FOUREIRA
In the poll we also included Eleni Foureira. That’s a weird nomination to be honest. She stated many times she wants to go to Eurovision internally selected not interested in a national final. Recent revelations on her descent might make her nomination for Greece a it harsh as been an Albanian in Greece – UNFORTUNATELY – is not widely accepted as much as it should be. But at the same time Tamta (who’s Georgian and not Greek) had never a problem within the showbiz or the Greek people!
DEVELOPMENTS ON THE NATIONAL SELECTION
Nevertheless, it’s holidays in Greece and with the Presidential Election saga ongoing (which might lead the country into a political turmoil) NERIT and MAD TV have paused all preparations for the Greek selection (whether national or internal). We have to wait until December 29th to find out what might happen in 2015. Don’t forget that if elections proclaimed, another problem might occur as radical left party SYRIZA stated that if they win (which is very likely according to the polls) they might cause a new problem with the EBU as their official statements say they will shut down NERIT and re-institute ERT (which will not be a member of the EBU anyway).
Lots of thriller and lots of thoughts about Eurovision in Greece in-between holidays and political developments. In about a week we might have a clear view on things.
