Greece 2015: date & participants decided but will they have a broadcaster?
Fotis Konstantopoulos (Greece)
ATHENS, GREECE – The political developments in Greece with the upcoming Greek elections this Sunday are creating a big question upon the Greek participation in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
Yes, Greek national broadcaster (NERIT) has already applied for participation and it became active member of the EBU on December 4th. Yes, NERIT and MAD TV already found the participants, the date and the new venue for the upcoming national final on early March (provisional date).
But… unfortunately and without any intention to make political statement in this post and in this website, most likely the government keys will be handover as of Monday to the radical left party of SY.RIZ.A.
Now, why is this news on oikotimes? Because one of the main promises SY.RIZ.A to the nation is the restoration of ERT and the shut down of NERIT. If this applies immediately when the new government is formed (if formed – but we base our estimation based on the polls upon Greek elections), then EBU will not be able to accept the new ERT as participant in the Eurovision Song Contest, unless they decide to make an exception gift to the newly established government.
Now regarding the national final, the plans include a new venue, three to four names, two of which are already very popular among the Greeks and especially among the fans, one of them is also a wishful thinking of the Eurofans for years!
