COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – Denmark is hosting the world’s largest music competition, Eurovision Song Contest 2014, in the capital city, Copenhagen, in May. It will be a fantastic and engaging event across Europe with an expected TV audience of 170 million viewers worldwide and an estimated 190,000 people in Copenhagen during a two-week period.
The Eurovision celebrations began today, 20 January 2014 at Copenhagen City Hall with Copenhagen’s first official Eurovision 2014 event ’Host City Insignia and European Broadcasting Union’s Semi Final Allocation Draw’.
Mayor of Last year’s Eurovision Song Contest Host City, the Swedish town of Malmö, Kent Andersson, handed over the Eurovision baton, which looks like a gigantic keychain, to Copenhagen and Lord Mayor Frank Jensen, and thereby kicked off Copenhagen’s hosting of this year’s music competition.
Afterwards Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest Jon Ola Sand punched the start button for the countdown clock outside City Hall in Copenhagen, which immediately started counting down. 104 days to go.
At last, the two hostesses Tine Götzsche and Ulla Essendrup from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation determined, by a live allocation draw, in which semifinal, and what part of it, each of the participating countries will compete. The semifinals will take place 6 and 8 May. The final will take place 10 May. There will be nine shows in total including rehearsals. In addition, Host City Copenhagen will host a large number of free street events in the city.
