KYIV, UKRAINE – Mary Yaremchuk won the national final of Ukraine and will represent her country in the 59th Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tick Tock. The team of oikotimes.com is proud to have her first web interview after her selection in Kyiv on December 21st.
How did you feel when you won the national final?
In the first seconds it seemed that heart will break out. Inwardly, I was grateful to the destiny that one of my main dreams came true and I have already asked her for strength and energy in the following year, and most importantly – in the spring!
What are your plans now?
Concerning Eurovision, primarily I want to think carefully how to put in this three minutes not only soul and music but also to show how magnetic and beautiful is Ukraine! Therefore, I’m going to pass the hard way. In addition, I graduate from 2 universities this year so I am waited for many examinations. And still Eurovision will be the main examination!
Will the song be remastered for the Eurovision?
Certainly, performance at the selection stage is like a sketch of the future performance! In two next months specially for Eurovision we will prepare the advanced version. The only thing that will remain constant in the arrangement – is the presence of Ukrainian national melodies.
You will be 21 years old in May. Do you think that it will be a disadvantage to other representatives?
The young age is the best armor! And… I am Ukrainian! The representative of the first generation, who was born and grew in the independent country. So, in any sense, it will be a debut of new Ukraine at Eurovision.
Are you and NTU planning some kind of special stage performance for Eurovision?
Absolutely, for Eurovision we will prepare special performance. While all thoughts don’t materialize, I will wait a little with disclosure of cards! Don’t you mind if I keep the idea in a secret?
Will some other versions of Tick-Tock be created?
Sure! We’ll have a lot of variations in order to understand which one is the most wining. However, for me, the creation of songs is not the technology but creativity. So everything depends on the good mood and inspiration.
Are you planning to appear as a guest at some other national finals?
It so happened that Ukraine is one of the first which carries out NF. I will watch the selection finals in the other countries with huge interest. All finalists, for me, first of all are not just the competitors, they are colleagues on the most exciting profession in the world. And my small secret will be what finals of neighboring countries I will visit.
What are your expectations of Eurovision? Do you think you will gain/lose something?
When I think of Eurovision, first of all I care what my country will receive. My personal ambitions will be realized when I will understand what my country got! And not lost! And… certainly, I hope to find new friends in Europe.
